The market and the town of Sarrià
Proud of having stalls that are up to four generations old, the Sarrià Market celebrated, in 2011, a century serving the neighborhood. The market is located in the old town of Sarrià, next to the Consell de la Vila square and Major de Sarrià street, and has been an exceptional witness to the transformations of the neighbourhood, which in 1921 went from being an independent town to be part of Barcelona. Despite the annexation, this area still maintains the charm of a quiet town far from the big metropolis, where the market plays an important role as a meeting point for residents and as a cohesive element of the neighborhood.
A market for the future
Despite the deep remodeling of the interior, in 2007, the building has been able to maintain the original appearance given by the architects Arnau Calvet and Marcel·lí Coquillat, who proposed an enclosure of plant Rectangular with exposed brick facades and metal skeleton.
The four facades are decorated with stained glass windows that allow natural light to enter the interior, in addition to brick borders. From the outside, the main façade stands out, facing west on Calle de Pere Tarrés, tall and with a triangular finish. The pillars that protrude above the facades also stand out.
