The Exquisite Beauty of Turó Park in Barcelona

Turó Park, located in the heart of Barcelona, is a picturesque and enchanting green space that offers visitors a serene retreat from the bustling city life. This magnificent park, which was once a humble amusement park, has been transformed into a verdant oasis that showcases the beauty of nature and art.

An Old Amusement Park Turned Green Lung

Turó Park gets its name from the old amusement park that existed on the grounds until 1929. The original owners, the Bertrand-Girona family, made an agreement with the City Council to repurpose the land. Under the guidance of Nicolau M. Rubió i Tudurí, the director of the Barcelona parks service at the time, Turó Park was redesigned and opened to the public.

Today, Turó Park is dedicated to the renowned poet Eduard Marquina. Its compact and elegant layout still preserves many of the park's original trees, including a magnificent hundred-year-old carob tree, laurel trees, poplars, and holm oaks. These majestic arboreal wonders create a delightful atmosphere as you stroll through the park.

Enchanting Features that Captivate the Senses

One of the park's highlights is its beautiful pond, enveloped by lush vegetation and adorned with blooming water lilies during the spring season. The serene ambiance of the pond makes it a perfect spot for relaxation and contemplation.

Another captivating feature is the Boulangrin parterre, which blends English and Arabian influences. This area boasts a gentle stream, sixteen grand magnolia trees, and inviting stone benches where visitors can unwind and soak in the park's tranquility.

Artistic and Cultural Treasures

Turó Park is not only a haven for nature enthusiasts, but it also boasts various sculptures that contribute to its artistic and cultural richness. Sculptor Apel·les Fenosa crafted a beautiful piece dedicated to the celebrated cellist Pau Casals, while Josep Clarà's sculpture pays homage to the Catalan tenor Francesc Viñas.

A Journey through Poetry

Embracing its cultural heritage, Turó Park invites visitors on a poetic journey through its tranquil pathways. A designated poetic route showcases the park's stunning landscapes, while introducing poetry from renowned writers such as Sylvia Plath, Fernando Pessoa, Salvador Espriu, and Federico García Lorca. Their words merge harmoniously with the park's natural beauty, creating an immersive experience for the senses.

For anyone seeking respite from the urban hubbub, Turó Park in Barcelona is an idyllic escape. Its lush greenery, captivating features, and artistic allure make it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike. Whether you are looking to reconnect with nature, appreciate art, or simply find solace, Turó Park offers an enchanting sanctuary that will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated.
